What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a relaxing and restorative complementary health therapy that can be effective in promoting deep relaxation and wellbeing. It reduces stress which is a key factor in optimising health and developing resilience. Reflexology is a touch therapy that is based on the theory that different points on the feet, leg, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body, and reflexologists work to restore energetic balance these points and areas.
The theory behind reflexology is that all of the body's systems and organs are mirrored or reflected in smaller areas of the body, such as the feet, hands, ears and face. The reflexologist works on these reflected areas with their sensitive fingers to bring them (and the entire body) back to balance. Reflexology is specially tailored to each individual's needs, to facilitate and activate your body’s own potential for health and wellbeing.
At the very least, reflexology is a time for rest and relaxation where the client receives one-to-one attention and supportive touch in an empathetic healing environment. Reflexology is a holistic therapy that can be received by anyone at any age, including babies, children, adults and the elderly. Reflexology complements standard healthcare and can be safely used alongside other healing modalities.

What to expect
Reflexology is a very easy therapy to receive. It is usually conducted on your feet, so you will need to remove your shoes and socks. It also helps if you don't wear tights or tight-fitting trousers. The therapist will then use their hands to apply pressure to particular points on your feet, and possibly your lower legs. You may feel a little discomfort occasionally during the treatment as crystals, tightness and blockages are removed, but generally the reflexology experience is a very relaxing one.
After one or two treatments your body may respond in a beneficial and noticeable way. Most people feel a sense of wellbeing and relaxation; however, sometimes people can feel a bit lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is shortlived and is part of the natural healing process. Your therapist may recommend a short course of weekly treatments to treat some issues, or regular monthly "maintenance" treatments.
