What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy facilitates the body’s natural ability to heal, restore and balance itself.
It is a deeply relaxing treatment which helps balance the nervous system and enables the body to return to a healthier state following injuries or emotional trauma. Body tissues hold onto the results of injury and illness; craniosacral therapy invokes a powerful process which releases these tensions and restrictions.
As it is such a gentle therapy, all ages can benefit, from new-borns to the elderly.
It originates in the findings of Dr. William Sutherland, an osteopath who discovered that every cell in the body has an involuntary system of "breathing", vital for the maintenance of good health.
As therapists, we are able to locate restrictions within your body and work with these areas to facilitate the body's own natural ability to increase vitality and therefore promote your health and well-being.
Physical pain can have emotional attachment; craniosacral therapy treats the whole body-mind complex in order to release physical and emotional stress.

What to expect
During the first session, I will take a case-history of your health and any particular issues that you have. The treatment is then typically performed with you lying fully clothed on a couch with contact being made at the head, feet and sacrum (tailbone). During the treatment I will become aware of any restrictions held within the body and by gentle touch, work with the body to begin to release these.
It generally brings a feeling of deep-relaxation as the whole person is brought to a balanced and calm state of well-being.
The number of treatments required varies according to your individual needs. Some clients respond immediately; with others it may take a few treatments for the full benefits to take effect.
